What is REA?

REA is an open-source toolkit that lets a coding agent look inside real software and explain or rebuild a feature from what it finds.

Updated Oct 19, 2026

In short

REA stands for Reverse Engineer Anything. It plugs into the coding agent you already use and gives it tools to inspect programs, apps and web pages, so the agent can answer how a feature actually works instead of guessing.

What it can look at

  • Native binaries: functions, strings, references and how calls connect.
  • JavaScript and Electron apps: modules, routes, IPC and native dependencies, from a folder or packaged archive.
  • Browser and runtime activity: what a page or process does while it runs, captured and compared across runs.

How a typical session goes

  1. You point your agent at one program and ask about one feature.
  2. The agent uses REA to read the relevant code, references and runtime behaviour.
  3. It explains what it found and, if you want, rebuilds the feature small enough to test.

REA is MIT licensed. Only inspect software you are allowed to analyse, and respect each product's terms.
